Attention Upson EMC Members!

You will have the opportunity to help others in your community through a program called “Operation Round Up”. This program was originally started by Palmetto Electric Membership Cooperative in South Carolina and has since been adopted by many co-ops in Georgia. It was designed to help a variety of worthwhile community, youth, educational, and environmental programs. Through Operation Round Up, each participating Upson EMC member makes a small monthly contribution. Together, those small amounts make a big difference!

Unless you choose NOT to participate, your electric bill is “rounded up” each month to the nearest whole dollar amount with the extra change going into a separate Operation Round Up fund. For example, if your bill is $86.23, you will be billed an even $87.00 and the extra $.77 goes towards helping various goodwill causes in your community. On average, a member will only contribute about $6.00 per year, but with everyone pitching in, all that extra change adds up. It is an inexpensive and convenient way to give to charitable programs within our communities!

This was a difficult decision that was made after much consideration. We chose this method based on information from many other EMCs that have implemented the program this way. We truly believe that the vast majority of our members (85%) will want to participate in this worthwhile program, so it is much easier to implement by asking for a response from a smaller percentage rather than a much larger percentage. Please keep in mind that this is still a voluntary program and you may opt in or out at any time.

The Upson EMC Foundation will be governed by a separate Board of Directors made up of volunteers within your communities and any organizations seeking assistance through the Operation Round Up program will need to first fill out an application that is then reviewed by the Board. They will decide how the money is disbursed on a need basis and you can be certain that 100 of your donations are being used to help better your communities. However, funds cannot be used for political purposes or to pay electric bills. Please see the Upson EMC Foundation Guidelines/Policies for more information.

Through the collective giving of thousands of members, a sizeable amount of money can be raised each year within our service area to be distributed to 501(c)3 charitable organizations.

We hope that you will elect to take part in this program, but if you decide that you do not want to participate, you must contact our office at 706-647-5475 or fill out the form below and return it with your bill. If you would like additional information before making your decision, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
